Biography
#STYLE#
A combination of Progressive- and Death Metal. Characteristic feature of this combination is the changing of moods within the compositions. To make the songs as pleasant and appealing as possible complex parts vary with more catching tunes. Massively aggressive and soft melodic passages merge to a powerful unit. Added to that are the vocals which change from scary deep grunts to gentle and melodic sections.
#LYRICS#
DISTREAM do not intend to create a better world. They also don't correspond to the commonly noted Heavy- or Deathmetal cliché of "death and devil". On the contrary Distream's lyrics do mostly deal with human relations or personal experiences - thus presenting a very personal approach to the music.
#HISTORY#
Founded under the name "Thorn" Distream have been within the scene since May '95, with two line-up changes in
April '96 and spring 2K. In order to serve the numerous requests for a demo tape or even a CD the group decided
to have recordings done by the Soundgarden Tonstudio at Oldenburg, Germany, in August '96 The result was called
"Apogee" and in view of the good quality published as a four-track CD.
By then it was time to make an assault on the still seething underground and the exertion of sending letters,
flyers and demos troughout the hemispheres turned out to be futile quite quick: there were responses from all over
the world (from Malaysia to Cuba to be precise). But also the German scene took notice of Distream in a positive way
and by the time several concerts with bands known well in the scene like CRACK UP, NIGHT IN GALES and DEW-SCENTED
(to name but a few) were done quite successfully.
After nearly three years of showing up live and writing new songs Distream decided that time for another sign of
life had arrived: to reach out for even more reaction from the scene and labels Distream went into recording sessions
a second time in Oktober '99. Five brandnew songs produced at famous Soundlab Studios (Liars of Golgotha, Everon, Dark at Dawn)
were banned onto tape as another try to reach interested ears.
After the second line-up change in 2000 and many successful live appearances a contract was signed with northern German Label
"TTS" at the end of 2003 and the first full length cd "The dreadful moments" was recorded in winter 2004 to be published in fall 2005.
#FUTURE#
In first place Distream will go on looking for a deal to reach a bigger audience. A main topic will also be to expand the numerous existing contacts which were evolved throughout the years. Besides this several concerts at home and abroad with bands from Europe and Germany are planned within the next months to promote "The dreadful moments".
